The Scout’s Notebook
The Money Flow desk shows where the money is on a game: the dollars resting in prediction-exchange orders behind each side, every price on the order book set against the de-vigged fair line, and — where no exchange prices the game — one major sportsbook's share of the money against its share of the bets.
Money against bets is a share, never dollars: one book's share of the handle beside its share of the tickets. When the money share runs 15 or more points ahead of the bet share, the desk says the average bet on that side is bigger — it never claims a single large bet exists, because a split cannot show one.
An edge is graded only on a price with at least $50 available at it, so a crumb of an order cannot print as value. A game already under way is never graded, because the book half of the fair line is the pregame one. Every edge is before the exchange's own trading fee and says so.
When a sport's exchange order books are not being read, its plays show money against bets only, and the board says which sports are in that state rather than leaving the dollars blank.
Because the desk refuses to grade it: fewer than $50 sits at that price, the game is already in play, or the fair line itself was refused for too few books. The price stays on screen with its reason, never dressed up as value.
No — every edge on the desk is before the exchange's own trading fee, and each one says so. Subtract the venue's fee on the stake you plan before treating a small edge as real.
