Quarterback
Malik Willis - Miami Dolphins
You may be wondering why Gardner MInshew II isn’t first on this list, and it has everything to do with his matchup. His next 3 games come against tough matchup, meanwhile Willis gets to play the Lions who have given up more points than any other team to the QB position. Start Willis this week against the Lions. Minshew might lose his job in a few weeks.
Honorable Mentions
Sam Darnold is in the same boat as Willis regarding matchups. His matchups for the next 4-6 weeks are amazing. At this point in the season we know how defenses are going to be as a matchup. If you can add Darnold, now might be your chance. He could be a league winner.
Running Back
Tyler Allgeier - Arizona Cardinals
With a pretty solid matchup against Seattle next week, and no better options in the RB room, Allgeier seems primed for another great performance. When he’s been given the opportunity, he’s shown he can make the most of it, and he’s got a hot hand.
Emmett Johnson - Kansas City Chiefs
Johnson might be one of the most explosive players in the NFL. His ability to make a defender miss, and then make him pay, is unlike many other players in the league. If Andy Reid can continue giving him the opportunity, or if Kenneth Walker misses any time, Johnson could be your league winning running back this season.
Honorable Mentions
I don’t know what’s going on in Tampa Bay, but if Kenneth Gainwell is gonna touch the ball 25 times, you can add him to your team. Having the ball in your hands is a good thing. He may not see 20+ touches again this season, but he’s worth a stash in this offense.
Wide Receiver
Adonai Mitchell - New York Jets
When Adonai Mitchell is on the field he’s great. He might not be worth a start this week, because of the matchup, but if the Jets are going to be trailing, they’re going to be throwing the ball, and if they’re throwing the ball, Mitchell’s gonna be open.
Ryan Flournoy - Dallas Cowboys
The idea that George Pickens might not stay a Cowboy is very interesting for Flournoy. With over 10 points in each of the last 4 games, he’s carving a way into this offense. Regardless of whether he’s the 3rd string, or if he moves up the depth chart, Flournoy has proven he can play ball, and if you’re needing a spot start, he’s worth the risk.
Honorable Mentions
Treylon Burks didn’t start his career well, but has become relevant in his role with the Washington Commanders. With the matchup this week against the Lions, Malik Washington looks like he could be worth a spot start as well.
Tight End
Mike Gesicki - Cincinnati Bengals
There’s a tight end who has s cored a touchdown in 6 of the 7 games he’s played, and his name is Mike Gesicki. With tight ends we look for touchdown upside, and Gesicki looks like he’s had it. Ride the hot hand. Burrow loves him in the red zone this season.
Michael Mayer - Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders don’t have any wide receivers besides Tre Tucker. Michael Mayer is their 3rd option, and maybe their true TE. Bowers spends some of his time lined up out wide, and this makes room on the line for Mayer to step in. Even if he’s a stash until your TE goes on bye, Mayer is a solid option in most leagues.
