A parlay's decimal odds are the product of its legs' decimal odds — two −110 legs multiply to 3.64, about +264 — and its true expected value is the product of the legs' fair probabilities times that payout.

The Scout’s Notebook

How are parlay odds calculated?

A parlay's decimal odds are the product of its legs' decimal odds — two −110 legs multiply to 3.64, about +264 — and its true expected value is the product of the legs' fair probabilities times that payout.

How it works & common questions

Independent-legs math is the reference: same-game legs are correlated, and this page says so rather than pretending otherwise. Correlation-priced tickets live on the sport parlay desks.

How it works

  1. Enter each leg's price. Add up to ten legs; the combined odds multiply live.
  2. Optionally add fair probabilities. Each leg's devigged chance turns the payout into a true EV.
  3. Read payout and EV. Book-implied probability versus your true probability — the gap is the book's parlay margin.

Why do parlays have higher hold than straight bets?

Because the vig on each leg multiplies through the ticket: three legs each carrying ~2.4% of margin compound to roughly 7% against you before correlation pricing makes it worse. A parlay is only +EV when the legs themselves are +EV by more than the compounded vig.
